Sacred Heart | Organist
Phil Thibault began his music ministry as organist at Sacred Heart in 1984 playing the venerable 1937 Hammond organ. Shortly thereafter, and through the Organ Clearing House with pipe organ builder, David Wallace, he and choir director, Pat Siviski, formulated plans for the relocation and rebuilding of the 1893 George Jardine tracker organ from New York. A fine 1998 Boston grand piano completes the instrument stable and shows the incredible support the Parish has had for their music program; Phil credits this for whatever success he has had during his tenure. Phil has been a lifelong student beginning with former Portland Municipal organist John Fay. Learning to play the organ is a process of passing tradition down through the centuries and, like most organists, Phil can trace his musical training to J. S. Bach. Phil lives in Cumberland with his wife, Pat, of over forty years.
