Sacre Coure Parish, Meyer, Haiti
Our relationship with our sister parish in Meyer began in 1992. We began by offering financial support for this desperately poor parish in the Jacmel Diocese of Haiti, on the southern coast.
A terrible earthquake in 2010 destroyed the church. Our parish first helped arrange for the rubble to be cleared away, and then supported the effort to build a new church, pictured to the left. The church continues to thrive and grow.
Due to the unstable conditions in Haiti we are unable to visit Meyer in person. POTHE continues its contact with the parish administrator, Father Jean Marc Pierre through emails, messaging and on Facebook. We recently had a video conference with him to discuss the current situation of the church community in Meyer, Haiti. POTHE is able to send quarterly support for operating expenses, tuition subsidy in the fall, and gifts for feast days.
Saint Therese of the Baby Jesus, Marbial, Haiti
In 2015 POTHE also began supporting the Parish of St Therese, located in a remote mountainous region about 2 hours from the coastal city of Jacmel. We have visited this parish twice, including a medical mission trip in 2015. We maintain regular contact with the Pastor, Fr. Joseph Herol. We are able to send quarterly support, and several months ago sent additional funds for humanitarian aid to help with housing and basic needs of recent arrivals in Marbial who have fled the unsafe conditions in the capitol of Port au Prince.
